The Broken

I know it’s late on Saturday Night but I also know that most of you guys don’t go to bed for several more hours.  (yes I see it in your eyes on Sunday Morning)
There’s always a certain anxious feeling that I get on the Saturday night before we’re doing a new song at Awaken the next day.  I don’t mean that in the unholy way but rather a better word might be anticipation.
For all of us on stage it is a challenge to try and get you to see through the newness to hear the message and join in, but for me it’s that plus hoping that what I’ve written is what you are needing to say to God.  If I anguish over anything as your worship pastor it is that I am leading you (being you collectively and you individually) to say things to God that are reflecting His Word inside that maybe you hadn’t had the moment or the words to say as of yet.
So tomorrow we are doing this new song called “The Broken” – This song is all about celebrating the fact that God creates in us new life and new creation out of what sin had broken.  It’s about victory in salvation and glory in sanctification. It’s about celebrating that moment when our sins were no longer counted against us and we began a journey with God.  It’s really like a birthday song of sorts.  Here’s the lyrics:

This is the sound that forgiveness makes in your heart
This is the crack of a weight moved from your soul
Replaced with reflection, replaced with hope
This is the sound of filling up that hole

Cause we were broken, but now we’re free
Cause we were blinded, but now we see

Praise to the only one who could have the strength
To rescue this broken soul for eternity
How Long, How Wide is this love I’m lost in
How Long, How Wide, You have healed these broken

This is the sound that redemption makes from the start
This is the peal of freedom ringing out
Replaced with a new heart, Replaced with hope
This is the sound of filling up that hole

Cause we were broken, but now we’re free
Cause we were blinded, but now we see

Praise to the only one who could have the strength
To rescue this broken soul for eternity
How Long, How Wide is this love I’m lost in
How Long, How Wide, You have healed these broken

I’ll see you guys in the morning and I’ll try and get a decent recording of this one to put up on the YouTube channel.

It’s an honor to worship with you all.  What an incredible unexplainable God that would make that kind of change in us.
